Independent Living Services ("ILS")

Most people think "living independently" means not needing any help to take care of themselves, their families and their homes; so when injury, illness or aging changes their abilities to continue to live the way they're used to, many people are so afraid of "becoming a burden" that they aren't willing or able to admit, adapt or adjust to unwelcome, involuntary changes.

The reality is that few of us go through our lives without getting some sort of support and/or help from our families, friends, co-workers, religious leaders, neighbors and other sources; so "living independently" can be more accurately described as remaining as involved as possible throughout life with whatever people, activities and places create a person's sense of self, belonging and community.

Vital Link Consulting helps people face changes they feel threaten their abilities to maintain a satisfying life. Vital Link Consulting's services include:

• Identifying or creating modifications in the home, work and/or school environment(s) to make it possible for a person to continue to do familiar tasks and activities despite changes in physical, emotional or cognitive abilities
• Identifying and teaching new and easier ways to do familiar tasks and activities that a person has started having difficulty doing.
• Identifying potential safety hazards in a home or apartment and helping the resident(s) reduce or remove the hazards.
• Identifying resources that can help people and their families make informed decisions when faced with the possibility of having to find a different place to live.
